MRI, NMR,
Particle Accelerators, and Materials Research:
Liquid helium's low boiling point (-452°F) makes it ideal for cooling the
magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) ), or nuclear magnetic resonance imaging
(NMRI) magnets that create the powerful magnetic field used in radiology
equipment. The liquid helium and liquid nitrogen are also used for more
efficient use of power and the super cooling of materials in particle
accelerators and materials research. |

Pressure and Leak
Testing:
The use of inert gas to pressurize new, repaired, or modified tanks, pipelines,
vessels, and process equipment in order to check their integrity and leak
tightness. Dry, inert gases will not contaminate the system with moisture,
lubricants or oxygen as will pressure testing with compressed air or water. |
