Since October of 2016, Chris has been a part of MATHESON’S Carrollton, KY location. Chris is a Driver Training Supervisor whose job entails delivering gases to our customers as well as training and mentoring new MATHESON truck drivers.

…to know that we help support so many different industries provides me with a sense of ownership in helping not only our customers but also helping people throughout the region.

Chris

Chris’ work ethic, positive attitude, and thirty years of driving experience laid the groundwork for him to be the winner of the MATHESON Bulk Driver of the Year Award for 2022. The Driver of the Year program recognizes MATHESON’s best drivers for their dedication to safety, on-time delivery and customer service, and the Bulk Driver of the Year Award is the most prestigious award presented to the “best of the best” of all bulk drivers. “I was honored and surprised when I found out I won. I was honored that my name was in the running and surprised because I was doing what I have done for the last thirty years.”

Chris’ honor does not come as a shock to those who know him well. His hard-working attitude is infectious and has helped create a bond with his co-workers at MATHESON. “A lot of us have similar interests, goals, and work ethic. We all are very focused on getting the products to our customers in a timely and safe manner.”

Chris’ passion for his job can be seen daily and he passes that enthusiasm on to the new employees he is training. “Our manufacturing process is fascinating to me and to know that we help support so many different industries provides me with a sense of ownership in helping not only our customers but also helping people throughout the region.”

When Chris is not working, he can often be found spending time with his kids, kayaking, and hosting karaoke parties. Chris’ selflessness is not only seen at work but also in his personal life where he enjoys spending time giving back to his community, whether it be through volunteering for his local fire department or helping in his neighborhood.

Chris has been a leader throughout his career and exemplifies what it means to be MATHESON’S Bulk Driver of the Year and September’s Employee Spotlight. Learn about how you can start your career at MATHESON:

Meet Tony, Our August Employee Spotlight

  • Facebook
  • Instagram
  • LinkedIn
  • Twitter
  • YouTube

Two years ago, Tony started working in Erie, PA as a Site Manager. Beginning work in the middle of a pandemic may have been difficult for some. However, for Tony it was not much of a challenge because of Tony’s drive and commitment to his customers and staff.

Tony is no stranger to working in the gas industry. After graduating college with a degree in finance, Tony moved to Denver, started out in customer service, and continued to work hard to become a manager.

Eventually, Tony decided he wanted to move back home after being away for 15 years and settled back in Pennsylvania. Tony found the opening at MATHESON and was hired as a Site Manager at our Erie, PA location.

Take pride in your work. Your work is a reflection of oneself and you should take pride in any task you are doing no matter how large or small it may seem.

Tony

A day in the life of a Site Manager at our Erie, PA store is one filled with variety of projects. Tony knows how important safety is at MATHESON and his facility. His morning safety meetings are a way to make sure his team is ready and engaged for the day ahead. Then the rest of the day he will spend working on various tasks such as helping his drivers get out on the road, assisting with customer service, and taking calls.

Tony really appreciates his team members. “My team is the backbone of our store; my job is to make a safe environment for them. If they enjoy coming to work, they will do a good job because of it.” Throughout Tony’s 15 plus years in the industry, he has learned a lot of lessons. One of the most recent being “be patient, trust your team to do the job, encourage them to take the time to learn…train them correctly.” Tony admits it does take some time and forbearance, but believes it helps in the long run. “Once they are doing the job correctly that is when you can see them taking ownership and pride in their position,” Tony states.

Speaking of pride, Tony’s own personal moto is very much like his views on his own team. “Take pride in your work. Your work is a reflection of oneself and you should take pride in any task you are doing no matter how large or small it may seem.”

When Tony is not working, he enjoys spending time with his family doing various activities including bowling, going to amusement parks, and visiting Presque Isle which is a state park in Erie. Something many people may be surprised to learn about Tony is that he enjoys horseback riding. This is especially true when he is visiting extended family members in one of his favorite places in the world, Denver, CO. “It’s relaxing. Just to be out in nature.”

So be on the lookout because if you are visiting our Erie store or horseback riding out in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, you may just run into Tony.

Our July spotlight focuses on David, Propane Supervisor, for the industrial gas business in the East Zone. David joined MATHESON in 2014 as an Industrial Truck Driver in Martins Ferry, Ohio.  In this role he transported cylinders to our customers throughout the Ohio region.   David’s hard work, dedication and customer-oriented focus have helped him work his way up through MATHESON, and in 2020 he was promoted to his current role as Propane Supervisor.

Do your best and your best will do.

David

In David’s department teamwork is key, “We have a lot of employees at the Martins Ferry location that have been with MATHESON for a long time.  We work well together and are always there for each other to help out.  Driving propane can be very demanding especially in the winter months when residents need the fuel to heat their homes.  We take our job very seriously and we work hard to make sure we are supporting our customers.” David’s main focuses in his job are routing and scheduling and his team is very helpful not only in his work life now, but especially when he was transitioning from a driver to a supervisor. “They make it nice to come to work every day,” David states.

“Do your best and your best will do” is a phrase that David grew up with.  This third-generation volunteer fire fighter puts his heart into everything he does.   If he isn’t working or giving back to his community, he spends his time at home with his girlfriend and two children.   They share a passion for cooking. David said, “It isn’t the end result of cooking, it is the process that I enjoy.” David enjoys making spaghetti sauce, brisket, and has even perfected his own pizza dough recipe. He emphasizes that he “loves to get down and make something from scratch.”

If you are in the Martins Ferry, Ohio location, be on the lookout for David.

Meet David, Our June Employee Spotlight

We would like to introduce you to David –  our June employee spotlight.  David has been with MATHESON for 4 years focusing on the Biopharmaceutical industry.  In his role as Biomedical sales and marketing lead he works closely with our sister company, Taiyo Nippon Sanso (TNS) to develop gas and equipment offerings for the biotechnology market, furthering MATHESON’S biotech footprint in the United States.

David received his undergraduate degree in chemistry and a master’s degree in business.  His interest in healthcare led him into the pharmaceutical industry where he gained experience in new and emerging developments in the biotechnology field.   In David’s role he helps manufacturers that are facing new challenges when developing novel targeted drugs that are used for single-use purposes and not for the masses.  These drugs pose different issues regarding how to manufacture effectively and efficiently in such small quantities.  David is up for the challenge on how to work with companies to achieve those goals.

If you see results or conditions are not going in the direction you thought, you need to be nimble and pivot quickly.

David

Currently David is collaborating with TNS on Oxygen18 and Oxygen17.  These products are used to trace movements of water through the brain with the use of an MRI.   These products are truly groundbreaking and will bring MRI technology to the next level.

David’s strategic mind and problem solving skills are not only used at work but also when he is trail skiing.  The challenge of navigating yourself down the hill and choosing the best course is what he enjoys most about skiing. “In skiing, my personal life, and my professional career I run them all very similarly; you can’t be afraid to change your plan.   If you see results or conditions are not going in the direction you thought, you need to be nimble and pivot quickly. This has allowed me to evaluate situations and course correct to be successful.”

Thank you for all your hard work!  Do you want to be a part of our team?
