Tatiana Carter’s path to MATHESON spans continents and unexpected turns. Born in Paris, France, and raised on the tiny island of Sint Maarten/Saint Martin, she graduated from a high school class of just 10 students. Studying chemical engineering at McGill University in Montreal was her next adventure, allowing her an opportunity to launch her career as a Junior Process Engineer. The Great Recession had other plans for Tatiana, but eventually she was drawn back to the industrial gas industry when a sales position at MATHESON piqued her interest. She had never done sales before and was terrified she’d fail. Tatiana took the leap anyway, and 14 years later, she’s thriving as an Onsite & Pipeline Sales Manager.
It takes many cooks to make the recipe just right so we can get a win for MATHESON.
Tatiana
Her role blends customer strategy with deep technical knowledge. One week, she might be on the road visiting customers, next, she’s building proposals, negotiating contracts, or learning about technical specifications so she can guide clients with confidence. Her career is filled with standout moments, including coordinating global logistics to supply a large customer with high-purity gases for a critical mission. Not only that, but she also worked with a customer to help make sure they had supply during a government shutdown. “It was a good win for MATHESON, and we delivered the cylinders on time and surpassed their expectations,” she recalls.
But what Tatiana values most isn’t a single project, it’s teamwork. She loves the challenge of uniting departments across MATHESON to deliver solutions, from engineers to tax specialists to technicians. This collaboration helps her secure long-term customer agreements, many wins built by countless hands, not one. Tatiana says, “It takes many cooks to make the recipe just right so we can get a win for MATHESON.” It’s a fitting mindset for someone who has nurtured a sourdough starter for five years (and counting) for fun: when many parts work together, something incredible rises.
Her advice? Be kind, learn as much as you can, and never let “no” shut a door. Tatiana never says “that’s not my job” if she can help, because progress is built together. She says, “We portray ourselves as a united front for customers. It’s in the way that I’ve gained the trust of my fellow colleagues and customers with delivering on the promises I’ve made.”
