Meet Raymond Mireles. Ray joined MATHESON in 2022 and has found his niche as an inside sales representative at the Pinellas Park, FL location. He brings a wealth of experience to his role with a background spanning construction, manufacturing, and locksmithing. 

Each day, Ray strives to provide a blend of exceptional customer service, teamwork, and meticulous attention to detail. He plays a critical role in his store’s success, handling orders, assisting customers, and ensuring smooth operations.

As a proud United States Marine Corps member, Ray embodies the principles of teamwork, support, and excellence. At MATHESON, he cherishes the sense of family and camaraderie and feels valued for his contributions throughout the organization. Ray says “All the roles at MATHESON must be done as a team and each of my colleagues must play their part in the process. If each of the roles are not done in sync and as one, customers don’t get what they need.” He finds gratification in being part of a team that genuinely cares for one another.

Ray excels in customer engagement, problem-solving, and ensuring efficient order processing. His commitment is evident in his successful fulfillment of large orders, even in challenging situations, demonstrating his dedication to exceeding customer expectations and upholding MATHESON’s values.

Outside of work, Ray enjoys an active lifestyle, participating in bike riding, kayaking, and even boxing. He cherishes spending time with his family, including their beloved French Bulldogs, Lily and Abigail. Ray also spends his time volunteering at his church and in the community, highlighting his devotion to giving back and making a difference.

Meet Hershell Young, a dedicated member of the MATHESON team with 34 years of experience, currently working as a Service Desk Analyst. Hershell brought his expertise and commitment to customer service to MATHESON when he joined the team through the 2009 Valley National acquisition.

In his role, Hershell spends his days helping fellow teammates with technology issues, serving as a Level 2 Service Desk Analyst. He assists other techs with issues and handles escalations that require specialized knowledge.

One of the most memorable experiences in Hershell’s career was transitioning from working in retail stores to the IT department in 1998. When he joined MATHESON in 2009, having an IT background, learning about welding processes and the technical aspects of the industry was initially challenging, but Hershell’s dedication helped him adapt and excel in his new role.

Hershell enjoys the friendly and supportive culture at MATHESON, where everyone, from executives to drivers, contributes to a great team environment. He finds fulfillment in working with such a cohesive team and enjoys the diverse interactions his role entails.

Outside of work, Hershell enjoys playing basketball, hiking, and walking. His active lifestyle reflects his energetic approach to both work and leisure. When asked about his favorite office snack or coffee order, Hershell humorously mentions “Chicken Chips,” adding a light-hearted touch to his profile.

In terms of advice for new employees, Hershell emphasizes the importance of collaboration and suggests that they remain open-minded and solution-focused. His mantra, “The Journey of a thousand miles begins with one step” by Lao Tzu, inspires him to approach challenges with patience and perseverance.

Meet Andrew Grove, the lead chemist at MATHESON’s Palm, PA facility. Andrew is a Pennsylvania native and received a bachelor’s in physics from Messiah University. He joined the Palm team two and a half years ago as a laboratory technician and has since been promoted to lead chemist.

In his role, Andrew oversees laboratory operations, which include operating purification systems and completing quality control analyses. He also trains employees, troubleshoots system issues, and contributes to procedural document revisions.

One of Andrew’s proudest accomplishments at MATHESON occurred during challenging times, when he stepped up as lead chemist, ensuring continued product quality despite a reduced workforce. He values MATHESON’s team-oriented culture and the flexibility to pursue research and development projects to further improve the lab.

Outside of work, Andrew enjoys activities like photography, watching “The Office” and “Friends”, reading, singing, and playing the piano. He is also actively involved in youth outreach at his local church.

Andrew emphasizes the importance of exploring and learning the instruments and system components you are working with while looking for new and different ways of doing things. His commitment to excellence and continuous improvement exemplifies MATHESON’s principles, making him a valuable asset to the company.

Meet Jaime Navarrette, a dedicated Site Manager at MATHESON, with a dynamic background in various industry services. Jaime’s journey with MATHESON began about five years ago when he met a regional general manager who spoke highly of the company. Inspired by the encouragement, Jaime joined MATHESON and has since thrived in his role.

Jaime’s typical day is a whirlwind of productivity, starting with a daily Tool Box Talk meeting and reviewing sales from the previous day. He then dives into facility walk-throughs, customer interactions, deliveries, inventory management, and supporting his team wherever needed. His primary focus is ensuring the safety of his team and the facility, which is a responsibility he takes to heart.

One of Jaime’s most memorable experiences at MATHESON was helping to restructure the Gonzales, TX store, which led to winning Site of the Year while managing that location. Currently, the San Marcos, TX site, under Jaime’s leadership, is leading the region in both Site Improvement and 5S Projects, a testament to his commitment to excellence.

Outside of work, Jaime enjoys many different activities and hobbies. He loves getting in touch with nature in his RV, passionately cheering for the Dallas Cowboys, and indulging in woodworking projects.

Jaime attributes much of his growth at MATHESON to collaboration with current and previous site teammates. His advice to new employees is to embrace change, stay open to learning, and explore various roles within the company. Jaime values MATHESON’s emphasis on work-life balance and prioritization of employee safety.

Jaime finds motivation in a quote from Kobe Bryant: “The most important thing is to try and inspire people so that they can be great in whatever they want to do.” Jaime embodies this spirit of inspiration and continues to make a positive impact at MATHESON.

Meet Jim Bates, a regional operations manager on the HyCO team at MATHESON. Jim joined us in 2019 as part of the HyCO team acquisition from Linde, bringing a background in managing Air Separation Unit facilities and commissioning plants. He has been in his current role for six months, previously serving as the plant manager for the Lemont, IL facility.

In his role, Jim oversees operations for six plants, with another one on the way. His key responsibilities include prioritizing safety, reducing hazards, improving compliance, and training new personnel. Jim emphasizes the importance of training new or inexperienced teammates about the hydrogen plants, as he believes they are the “future of the organization.”

Jim has been managing the Lemont, IL site since 2014 when it was still part of Linde. During those ten years, under Jim’s leadership, the plant has maintained an accident-free record while meeting reliability targets for both the company and customers.

Jim values the freedom to succeed in delivering on the safety, dependability, and profitability goals at MATHESON. He appreciates the company’s safety culture, which he also practices at home by wearing earplugs and safety glasses while cutting the lawn.

Outside of work, Jim enjoys traveling with his wife to watch his son wrestle, recently visiting Maryland for the Big Ten Championships.

During his time at MATHESON, Jim has had the opportunity to meet all kinds of people and collaborate with numerous colleagues. He finds inspiration in working with new and energetic personnel, viewing growth as a key aspect of professional development. Jim’s dedication to excellence and continuous improvement embodies the core values of MATHESON, making him an invaluable leader.
