…to know that we help support so many different industries provides me with a sense of ownership in helping not only our customers but also helping people throughout the region.
Chris
Chris’ work ethic, positive attitude, and thirty years of driving experience laid the groundwork for him to be the winner of the MATHESON Bulk Driver of the Year Award for 2022. The Driver of the Year program recognizes MATHESON’s best drivers for their dedication to safety, on-time delivery and customer service, and the Bulk Driver of the Year Award is the most prestigious award presented to the “best of the best” of all bulk drivers. “I was honored and surprised when I found out I won. I was honored that my name was in the running and surprised because I was doing what I have done for the last thirty years.”
Chris’ honor does not come as a shock to those who know him well. His hard-working attitude is infectious and has helped create a bond with his co-workers at MATHESON. “A lot of us have similar interests, goals, and work ethic. We all are very focused on getting the products to our customers in a timely and safe manner.”
Chris’ passion for his job can be seen daily and he passes that enthusiasm on to the new employees he is training. “Our manufacturing process is fascinating to me and to know that we help support so many different industries provides me with a sense of ownership in helping not only our customers but also helping people throughout the region.”
When Chris is not working, he can often be found spending time with his kids, kayaking, and hosting karaoke parties. Chris’ selflessness is not only seen at work but also in his personal life where he enjoys spending time giving back to his community, whether it be through volunteering for his local fire department or helping in his neighborhood.
Chris has been a leader throughout his career and exemplifies what it means to be MATHESON’S Bulk Driver of the Year and September’s Employee Spotlight. Learn about how you can start your career at MATHESON:

Beat the Summer Heat with Nitro Coffee

Nitro coffee is ice-cold coffee on tap. It’s treated with nitrogen and/or carbon dioxide under high pressure, then chilled in a keg and served on draught with a foamy top layer.
MATHESON supplies beverage grade nitrogen and complete equipment solutions for Nitro Coffee.
This specific type of coffee is not only rich and creamy, it’s also slightly effervescent due to the tiny bubbles suspended inside the refreshing beverage. Nitro coffee also has a chocolate-like sweetness to it and is less acidic compared to large-batch cold brewed coffee, all without the need for sugar or creamer.
Nitrogen is insoluble in liquid, which is what contributes to the thick mouth feel. This effect is helped by a special piece of tap equipment that forces the coffee through tiny holes before it lands in the glass. That process causes the “rising” effect that is topped with the head. It’s worth noting that really only the bubbles on the sides of the glass are the ones that fall. Inside they are actually rising, as typically seen with many poured carbonated beverages.
MATHESON manufactures and supplies both nitrogen and carbon dioxide in a full range of purity grades and a variety of container sizes and types.
MATHESON also offers configured specialized systems that will deliver premium Nitro Coffee to your customers and help increase sales. We supply and install the entire system including all stainless steel containers, fittings, faucets, food grade fittings, tubing, etc.
We at MATHESON will even provide our exclusive recipe to make your Nitro Coffee a differentiator for your business.
Meet Tony, Our August Employee Spotlight

Two years ago, Tony started working in Erie, PA as a Site Manager. Beginning work in the middle of a pandemic may have been difficult for some. However, for Tony it was not much of a challenge because of Tony’s drive and commitment to his customers and staff.
Tony is no stranger to working in the gas industry. After graduating college with a degree in finance, Tony moved to Denver, started out in customer service, and continued to work hard to become a manager.
Eventually, Tony decided he wanted to move back home after being away for 15 years and settled back in Pennsylvania. Tony found the opening at MATHESON and was hired as a Site Manager at our Erie, PA location.
Take pride in your work. Your work is a reflection of oneself and you should take pride in any task you are doing no matter how large or small it may seem.
Tony
A day in the life of a Site Manager at our Erie, PA store is one filled with variety of projects. Tony knows how important safety is at MATHESON and his facility. His morning safety meetings are a way to make sure his team is ready and engaged for the day ahead. Then the rest of the day he will spend working on various tasks such as helping his drivers get out on the road, assisting with customer service, and taking calls.
Tony really appreciates his team members. “My team is the backbone of our store; my job is to make a safe environment for them. If they enjoy coming to work, they will do a good job because of it.” Throughout Tony’s 15 plus years in the industry, he has learned a lot of lessons. One of the most recent being “be patient, trust your team to do the job, encourage them to take the time to learn…train them correctly.” Tony admits it does take some time and forbearance, but believes it helps in the long run. “Once they are doing the job correctly that is when you can see them taking ownership and pride in their position,” Tony states.
Speaking of pride, Tony’s own personal moto is very much like his views on his own team. “Take pride in your work. Your work is a reflection of oneself and you should take pride in any task you are doing no matter how large or small it may seem.”
When Tony is not working, he enjoys spending time with his family doing various activities including bowling, going to amusement parks, and visiting Presque Isle which is a state park in Erie. Something many people may be surprised to learn about Tony is that he enjoys horseback riding. This is especially true when he is visiting extended family members in one of his favorite places in the world, Denver, CO. “It’s relaxing. Just to be out in nature.”
So be on the lookout because if you are visiting our Erie store or horseback riding out in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, you may just run into Tony.
